Soul Detox – Day 3

Soul Detox Devotion suggests we have 4 categories of toxic thoughts.  Check them out.

negative, fearful, discontented, and critical

Which types of toxic thoughts do you experience most often? What are some examples of your toxic thoughts?

via Jeremiah 12 NASB | YouVersion.com.

Our Soul Detox suggested reading is Jeremiah 12. You might notice Jeremiah had some toxic thoughts and he vented them to Yahweh. We can do that and when we have  a submissive heart, He will heal us.

Negative: 2. lacking positive or affirmative qualities, such as enthusiasm, interest, or optimism 3. showing or tending towards opposition or resistance via negative – definition of negative by the Free Online Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.

Fearful: scared, afraid, alarmed, frightened, nervous, terrified, apprehensive, petrified, jittery via fearful – definition of fearful by the Free Online Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.

Discontented: (with this one, don’t ‘kill’ the messenger; this is what it says): dissatisfied, complaining, unhappy, miserable, fed up, disgruntled, disaffected, vexed, pissed off (taboo slang), displeased, fretful, cheesed off (Brit. slang), brassed off (Brit. slang), with a chip on your shoulder (informal) via discontented – definition of discontented by the Free Online Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.

Critical: marked by a tendency to find and call attention to errors and flaws  via critical – definition of critical by the Free Online Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.

Starting at the bottom, this I can say I do not want to be known by family and friends as a person marked by a tendency to find and call attention to errors and flaws.  Of this I am sure! IF I think that way regularly and consistently I will talk that way. So will you.

Discontented. I think all I can say to this is it is the opposite of

11 Not that I am saying this to call attention to any need of mine; since, as far as I am concerned, I have learned to be content regardless of circumstances.

via Philippians 4:10-12 CJB – In union with the Lord I greatly – Bible Gateway.

which could only mean when I think discontented (toxic) thoughts, I will surely speak them and that will put me in direct violation of my ABBA’s Word.

Fearful. Need we discuss that? We KNOW perfect love casts out fear. So if we are full of fearful (toxic) thoughts, we can know for sure we are doubting the LOVE of our GOD – lacking in spiritual maturity.  That smarts! Ouch!

1 John 4:18 King James Version (KJV)

18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

via 1 John 4:18 KJV – There is no fear in love; but perfect – Bible Gateway.

Negative. Toxic indeed! Could ruin a perfectly good life with this category! And I don’t want a ruined life — it’s the only one I get here on planet earth and I understand that how I live here determines my rewards in Heaven.

1 Corinthians 3:14-16 Complete Jewish Bible (CJB)

14 If the work someone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward;
15 if it is burned up, he will have to bear the loss: he will still escape with his life, but it will be like escaping through a fire.
16 Don’t you know that you people are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you?

via 1 Corinthians 3:14-16 CJB – If the work someone has built on the – Bible Gateway.

I think I have said enough for today, :)

Day 2 —

Soul Detox Devotional question: What are some of the causes of toxic thoughts in your life?

Soul Detox suggested passage reading for today is 2 Corinthians 10:1-6 and Ephesians 6:10-20

After reading the passages there I went to Bible Gateway dot-com to read from the Complete Jewish Bible. You may prefer another translation – which you can easily choose when you click the link below and arrive at Bible Gateway dot-com.

via 2 Corinthians 10:1-6, Ephesians 6:10-20 CJB – Now it is I myself, Sha’ul, making an – Bible Gateway.

I am in NO way comparing myself to the Apostle Paul as he to me is a GIANT in Christian Faith, yet he was like you and me – having feet of clay.

2 Corinthians 10:1 . . . I who am considered timid when face-to-face with you but intimidating from a distance.

via 2 Corinthians 10:1-6, Ephesians 6:10-20 CJB – Now it is I myself, Sha’ul, making an – Bible Gateway.

I think I get this. Of course, he was intimidating and bold from a distance – the words he penned were GOD’s WORD. WORD that should strike fear in any unrepentant sinner.  I understand that on another level as well. I find myself bolder at this screen than face to face. And when confronted face to face with sin in people I love (and myself) I am often timid. That is not always good, I think.

Read the passage. This is only a one-minute slice of the whole.

For sure please check out these verses:

4 because the weapons we use to wage war are not worldly. On the contrary, they have God’s power for demolishing strongholds. We demolish arguments
5 and every arrogance that raises itself up against the knowledge of God; we take every thought captive and make it obey the Messiah.

via 2 Corinthians 10:1-6, Ephesians 6:10-20 CJB – Now it is I myself, Sha’ul, making an – Bible Gateway.

We demolish arguments! That helps me. The WORD of GOD is strong and powerful. I can apply it to the toxic thoughts (arguments) that go on in my head and gain VICTORY over them!!  I knew that. You knew that. But today is a fine day for reminding us to practice, practice, practice!

One more word: OBEY the MESSIAH! JESUS CHRIST the RIGHTEOUS!

Happy studying my Friends,

Guard Your Heart

Day 1

Soul De-toxing = getting the toxins out.  The question of the day over at Soul Detox – You Version is this:

How have your toxic thoughts negatively affected your life and relationships?

via Proverbs 4 HCSB | YouVersion.com.

The reading passage for today is Proverbs 4.

If you will when you have completed your reading, comment the verses the HOLY SPIRIT highlighted for you today.

These are mine:

23Guard your heart above all else, for it is the source of life.
24Don’t let your mouth speak dishonestly, and don’t let your lips talk deviously.

via Proverbs 4 HCSB | YouVersion.com.

Guard my heart.

Okay. That means standing sentry over what comes into my soul by way of my senses. I see the challenge there. five-sensesAnd I see without the HOLY SPIRIT’s help, I’m sunk. How about you?

Don’t let my mouth speak dishonestly. I get that. And I might as well be truthful here with you :) The HOLY SPIRIT cured me of willful lying many years ago. If I tell you an untruth, it will for sure be through ignorance.  I promise you that!

Don’t let the lips talk deviously. A worthy challenge and for sure is a factor in detoxing our souls!  Reminds me of this:

Philippians 4:8 21st Century King James Version (KJ21)

8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue and if there be any praise, think on these things.

via Philippians 4:8 KJ21 – Finally, brethren, whatsoever things – Bible Gateway.

So when I think THIS way, what comes from my lips for sure will NOT be devious.

That’s plenty to chew on today — don’t you think?

Any of you IN enough to comment your ‘highlights’ for today?

See you tomorrow – ABBA willing!
