Inside and Out

Another empty roll of parchment paper to discard. So I did. But not without injury. :) Not much of a cut but I know it’s there on the left side of my left thumb as I turn it to look. Always something to give thanks about – it wasn’t my right.

And today I noticed it is beginning to heal; another thanks. And I noticed it is healing from the inside out. I can still make a gap in the surface skin but inside it looks better, like it’s coming together.

I think true medical science will bear out that we are designed to heal from the inside out. Sure putting a band-aide on the outside is of some benefit; it shields the wound from further injury and dirt. But without the inner workings of our cells to heal, our injuries and illnesses remain.

It works that way in the Spirit too. We heal from the inside out. Sure good works, changed habits, a friend’s encouragement, and accountability help; they shield the wound from further injury and dirt; but, only the working of the HOLY SPIRIT within the heart of man (woman) will heal the broken, wounded soul.

Truth is all we Christians are a bunch of broken, wounded souls in varying degrees of healing. Odd until you think about it, a soul can have a completely healed wound with only a precious scar remaining and at the same time have another gaping, seeping wound. Do you know why?

Each injury, each wound has its own healing time and most often each healing comes in portion to the time we have submitted that gaping, seeping, hurting, ugly, nasty wound to the GREAT PHYSICIAN, taking every bitter pill He prescribes to be applied to the heart for our healing.

Yes. We heal from the inside out – inside and out.

Jeremiah 8:22 Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?

It’s a bitter pill to dispense and a bitter pill to take. There is a Balm in Gilead and we are only soul-sick because we have refused to be healed.

From Jeremiah 8:22 I read on, if you would like to do the same, click HERE.
I highly recommend the CJB version for its bold clarity.

Father, thank You for Jeremiah; for the WORD You have given us there; I pray to learn it and teach it in YESHUA’s name. And, Father, I pray for the sick, that we will be healed, spiritually and physically; and I pray HOLY SPIRIT that You will revive the Church, bring Peace to Israel, and repentance and salvation to America.

Cool and Not Cool

poor excuseFrom 92 Moose, Central Maine's #1 Hit Music Station Facebook page
(an acknowledgement, not an endorsement)

This appeared in my Facebook feed this morning and it brings one of my pet issues to mind: modesty.

Correct me if I am wrong but the woman’s attire has little, if anything, to do with rape. Rape is about power and control. Rape is what sin-sick men do in an attempt to satisfy a perverted need which is not primarily related to testosterone.

Similarly, immodesty is an attempt to satisfy a valid need that has been perverted; the need to be appreciated and noticed; to be valued. When I see a woman dressed immodestly my first reaction is grief and sadness. Sad that whether she is conscious of it or not she is saying my body is all I have to offer you; it’s all I have to be proud of.

I shall now brave the flack: The showing of cleavage, thighs and more is common in this culture and in summer months the excuse it is hot is as good as any other; but it is still an excuse. Not only is it an excuse it is a fallacy that wearing little more than bra and panties in the heat of the sun will make one cooler. Give me a calf length full flowing cotton skirt and a white cute kicky blouse/shirt (no cleavage showing) and I guarantee you I will be cooler than the one in a tank top and shorts. Sun beating down on bare skin is not cool – in more ways than one.

So why do women dress with cleavage, thighs and more exposed? You tell me.

I am not advocating that it takes head to toe garb to be modest. Modesty does not start with clothing, it starts with the heart. It starts with a woman or girl determining that JESUS is the one I am to please. HE gets to decide what I walk out the door wearing.  I wonder how many Christian women look in a full length mirror before they leave the house and ask HIM is this modest, LORD? Does this speak well of You and me?

I tell you from experience, you ask Him honestly and sincerely for clothing guidelines – He will give them to you.

There are some women at First Baptist Church of Satsuma, the local congregation of which I am a part, who carefully dress and some who don’t. One in particular who is younger than me even, every Sunday she is dressed modestly and attractively – she sings in the Praise Band. I have not told her; perhaps I should. She blesses me greatly!

Want a public figure as an example? Beth Moore. I have yet to see her dressed in anything but modest and flat-out cute clothes. And no she does not shop at high $ stores.

So there’s my soapbox for today.

1 Timothy 2:8-10 The Message (MSG)

8-10 Since prayer is at the bottom of all this, what I want mostly is for men to pray—not shaking angry fists at enemies but raising holy hands to God. And I want women to get in there with the men in humility before God, not primping before a mirror or chasing the latest fashions but doing something beautiful for God and becoming beautiful doing it.

Soul Talk

Truth to speak to our souls so we won’t believe lies this week.

Psalm 103

(1) Bless Adonai, my soul! Everything in me, bless his holy name!

2 Bless Adonai, my soul, and forget none of his benefits!

3 He forgives all your offenses, he heals all your diseases,

4 he redeems your life from the pit, he surrounds you with grace and compassion,

5 he contents you with good as long as you live, so that your youth is renewed like an eagle’s.

6 Adonai brings vindication and justice to all who are oppressed.

7 He made his ways known to Moshe, his mighty deeds to the people of Isra’el.

8 Adonai is merciful and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in grace.

9 He will not always accuse, he will not keep his anger forever.

10 He has not treated us as our sins deserve or paid us back for our offenses,

11 because his mercy toward those who fear him is as far above earth as heaven.

12 He has removed our sins from us as far as the east is from the west.

13 Just as a father has compassion on his children, Adonai has compassion on those who fear him.

14 For he understands how we are made, he remembers that we are dust.

15 Yes, a human being’s days are like grass, he sprouts like a flower in the countryside —  16 but when the wind sweeps over, it’s gone; and its place knows it no more.

17 But the mercy of Adonai on those who fear him is from eternity past to eternity future, and his righteousness extends to his children’s children,

18 provided they keep his covenant and remember to follow his precepts.

19 Adonai has established his throne in heaven; his kingly power rules everything.

20 Bless Adonai, you angels of his, you mighty warriors who obey his word, who carry out his orders!

21 Bless Adonai, all his troops, who serve him and do what he wants!

22 Bless Adonai, all his works, in every place where he rules! Bless Adonai, my soul!
