Arrogance and Self-righteousness

I think my favorite definition of Arrogance I found so far came to me at Studylight.org.

The sense of license

How descriptive is that?!
Have you seen it displayed? That countenance; that carriage that says clear the path, I’m coming through.  And I’ve seen it more subtly; hiding in irritation and aggravation when opposition arises.  No doubt we all have; however, I am herewith testifying the worse place to find it displayed is in the mirror – even subtly!

Self-righteousness.
I came at this in reverse. Looking first at righteousness. Again, Studylight.org helped. There I read that righteousness is observing divine law.
So, could we say self-righteousness is observing self-law; determining within ourselves what is right, what is wrong, what we will observe, what we will do based on ourselves and what we want, what we believe? Who besides me, knows that is deadly?  And now I dare say it is self-righteousness that gives birth to arrogance.  When we decide within ourselves what is right and wrong, we give ourselves a license to do as we, please. Like I said: Deadly!

We have one more installment in this series. Tomorrow. Foolishness.

Proverbs 22:15  (AMP)15 Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child;
The rod of discipline [correction administered with godly wisdom and lovingkindness] will remove it far from him.  source

How this will play out tomorrow? I have no clue today.  :)

Slander and Profanity.
O! this is rampant!

Slander. Again, both a noun and a verb. Something we do and something done unto us.

The short version is this: A false tale or report maliciously uttered. For the full definition, you may click HERE I hope you will and then you can turn on just about any media source and you will receive live demonstrations in abundance.

Profanity. 1828 Webster. Well, Noah had no concept of what we hear spoken today. For the word Profanity he gave little definition; so, I checked the word profane. It was lengthy. This is number One:

Irreverent to any thing sacred; applied to persons. A man is profane when he takes the name of God in vain, or treats sacred things with abuse and irreverence.

For the remainder, please visit the site.

Profanity is more than just the words people say; it’s souls without a holy reverence for THE MESSIAH. The Passover Lamb. The Creator. The One and Only True GOD of the Universe.

A wise gentlemen told me long ago, “there are no dirty words but, there is filthy communication”. I think he’d need to find a stronger word than filthy to adequately describe the now we live in. Perhaps, he would say there are no dirty words, but there is profane communication.

We are nearing the end of this series and frankly I’m eager to be done with it. It has not been pleasant to write; likely, unpleasant to read; so lets not chance the outcome of living any of it!

Whatcha say? What are we communicating to one another with our words and our doings?

Envy and Jealousy.
Hey, wait, aren’t these the same?

Wow! Envy is a noun and a verb. And the definition is long. See for yourself, HERE. A summary follows:

Envy:To feel uneasiness, mortification or discontent, at the sight of superior excellence, reputation or happiness enjoyed by another; to repine at another’s prosperity; to fret or grieve one’s self at the real or supposed superiority of another, and to hate him on that account.

Envy not thou the oppressor. Proverbs 3:31.

Something we feel. Defining envy as a noun, this is notable:

Pain, uneasiness, mortification or discontent excited by the sight of another’s superiority or success, accompanied with some degree of hatred or malignity, and often or usually with a desire or an effort to depreciate the person, and with pleasure in seeing him depressed.

Now on to jealousy.

JEALOUSY is the apprehension of superiority.

In short, jealousy is awakened by whatever may exalt others, or give them pleasures and advantages which we desire for ourselves. jealousy is nearly allied to envy, for jealousy before a good is lost by ourselves, is converted into envy, after it is obtained by others.

Could we say jealousy is step one; when jealousy simmers, envy boils? Could we say both exalt self; both turn even what we see in others back to ourselves?

Could we say envy and jealousy are all about ME simmering and boiling over about the blessings and accomplishments of others? Even a slight acquaintance with JESUS tells me this is BAD!
