Pot Luck

the-loft

At The Loft.   (Graphic by Kerry Messer
Some delicious writing and pictures are being served. Please click the pic for a taste and perhaps a feast for your soul.

As Leah wrote, pot luck here in the south can be described this way: When my home girls get together for a pot luck meal, no one asks, ‘what do you want me to bring’. Everyone knows it is true pot luck…bring whatever lights your fire. If we have all desserts and no veggies, well, what a tragedy!!

What is lighting my fire today? Hmm.

Well … no that one might not be tasty?  Lets see, nah! for that one I might be lacking some ingredients. And this one — well, that one is not perfected for public consumption yet. Excuse my discussion with myself. :)

I might have such a conversation with me as I consider a Pot Luck dish to prepare. Perhaps I should have such a conversation before I serve up a piece of mind too. :)

So what is in the pantry of my soul?

Psalm 119:11 I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. via Ps 119:11 ESV;CJB – I have stored up your word in my heart, – Bible Gateway.

Oh I hope I have stored away enough to pull out a morsel at a moment’s notice to serve up an edifying dish for a sister or brother.

4 And Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.’” via Luke 4:3-5 NASB;CJB – And the devil said to Him, “If You – Bible Gateway.
29 Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk [ever] come out of your mouth, but only such [speech] as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and give grace (God’s favor) to those who hear it. via Ephesians 4:28-30 AMP;CJB – Let the thief steal no more, but rather – Bible Gateway.

And don’t be afraid to try something new, when that wild idea comes to mind, line it up with Scripture and if it fits — go for it!  Works with cooking too. pesto chicken and applesSautéed these apples along with the chicken in a little grape-seed oil, added a little cinnamon and a hint of Stevia for sweetness to the apples, topped the chicken with my best batch of pesto yet — it was yummy!

And that’s my Pot Luck serving at The Loft and here at The White Stone.

Happy feasting!!

The Colander

I am about to tell off on myself. Risky. But here goes.

Cooked pasta drained in a colander. IMG_0712

Have you ever noticed the starch left behind takes a little more pressure to clean than some other residues? I noticed. Profoundly so today.

Water was hot and sudsy and I was set on moving quickly. Colander in hand, quick rub, set in the draining basket, oops missed a spot. Back in the water, another quick wipe, back in the basket and what! I blurted aloud, “You’re about to make me mad!” Simultaneously the word board of my mind read: “No. That would be YOUR choice (not the colander’s).”

I smiled. Gave Him praise and felt much-loved.

21 Your ears will hear a word behind you, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right or to the left. via Isaiah 30:21 NASB;CJB – Your ears will hear a word behind you, – Bible Gateway.  Isaiah 30:21

A long weekend coming up – enjoy and give thanks.

Or More

I’m considering people today.  They are amazing, you know.

Just think about someone you know; a family member perhaps. What they like; what they don’t; what they are good at; what just turns their stomach. Like, some just adore babies, anybody’s baby; just get a baby within sight and they are drawn to that little one like a magnet to a skillet. Or perhaps not. Perhaps another says I wouldn’t take a million dollars for any one of my children but I wouldn’t give you a nickel for another one. Seriously. It’s been said.

People are amazing! So individual. So different. The Great Designer laid out a pattern to join cells, organs, circulatory systems, bones, muscles, tissue, DNA; following the same pattern for each and every unique human specimen – no two exactly alike; unless you consider this: each and every model must have oxygen, water, food and love or it will die.

So when I consider people, their likes, their dislikes, their habits, everything that makes them who they are – so different from me. They need just what I need: oxygen, water, food, (oh yeah, clothes and a place to live are pretty much a necessity too) and love.  And the greatest of these is love.

So here’s what I’m thinking.
Oxygen. Perhaps I will not be called upon often to share my supply with another but could I not somehow offer a prayer or more for One laboring to breathe?
Water. Such a precious thing. Those of us with an abundant supply could be moved to help those lacking this vital necessity. Perhaps we could start with thanksgiving as we turn on the faucet and that clean, clear, life-sustaining supply wets our toothbrushes. Perhaps our thanks will inspire us to pray (or more) for water for those so thirsty.
Food. Oh my goodness. How do I even broach this? Could I open my frig and my pantry and give thanks? Could I contribute to a food pantry?
Love. God is love the Bible says. Do I have love? Do I dwell in love?

15 Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food, 16 and someone says to him, “Shalom! Keep warm and eat hearty!” without giving him what he needs, what good does it do? via James 2 KJV;CJB – My brethren, have not the faith of our – Bible Gateway.
17 If someone has worldly possessions and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how can he be loving God? 18 Children, let us love not with words and talk, but with actions and in reality! via 1 John 3 KJV;CJB – Behold, what manner of love the Father – Bible Gateway.

I have to tell you my Friends, I stepped into this one; and with His help and His grace I am ready for Him to enable me to walk in it.

Thank you for listening.

ABBA, I had no idea when we began this that we were going here but now that we are here, I pray for Your grace, conviction, direction, discernment, wisdom, resources, determination and most of all Your love to walk it out for Your glory.  Hold my feet to the fire I pray in YESHUA’s holy name.

Little g

May the God of hope.

And right there I stopped as I was reading Romans 15:13 to open my New Post window because I had to write to us.

God of hope.

He is the only God in whom is hope. He is the only God period. But you and I have lived long enough and have viewed enough media that we have seen other little g gods and in them is no hope.

How could you and I be so blessed to KNOW this God of hope? Amazing privilege!

And so today. May the God of hope fill YOU (and me) with all joy and peace (how?) as you (and I) believe in Him (why?) so that you (and I) may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (source)

Overflow with hope!

I wonder what that would look like in me? What does it look like in you?

ABBA, make it so today. HOLY SPIRIT, move us, inspire us, lead us to trust You so the joy of Yeshua (Jesus) will overflow in us, in our homes, in our work places, in heavy traffic, in long lines, with tired cashiers, willfully turned wrong children, media stories, taxes, healthcare and all other experiences and places we travel this day.

13 May God, the source of hope, fill you completely with joy and shalom as you continue trusting, so that by the power of the Ruach HaKodesh you may overflow with hope. via Romans 15:13 HCSB;CJB – Now may the God of hope fill you with – Bible Gateway.  Romans 15:13 Complete Jewish Bible (CJB)
