The Way Back

Luke 2.

Beginning at Verse 41. By this time Yeshua (Jesus) was already twelve and Passover Feasting for another year was complete. Mary and Joseph along with family and friends, a whole caravan of them, were now headed home to Nazareth. Toward the end of the day, as Joseph and Mary were making camp for the night, they realized Jesus was not with the group.

41 Now His parents went to Jerusalem every year for the Passover Feast.
42 And when He was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem, according to the custom of the Feast;
43 and as they were returning [to Nazareth], after spending the required number of days [at the Feast], the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem. Now His parents did not know this,
44 but supposed Him to be in the caravan, and traveled a day’s journey; and [then] they began searching [anxiously] for Him among their relatives and acquaintances.
45 When they did not find Him, they went back to Jerusalem looking for Him [everywhere].
46 Three days later they found Him in the [court of the] temple, sitting among the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions.  source

Can you imagine?! GOD the Father had entrusted His Only Son to them and they had lost Him! Mary and Joseph lost GOD!

(Have you ever lost sight of GOD? Yeah, Me too!)

I imagine both Mary and Joseph tore that road up back to Jerusalem. Her momma heart must have been in pieces (she had a lot of that, didn’t she?) as she and Joseph searched for Him for three long agonizing days. And finally, it dawned on them to go to the Temple. And there He was . . . just where He was supposed to be. GOD is always where He is supposed to be.

So, next time we leave GOD behind, let us quickly head back and He will be there waiting. He will have some questions for us, some instructions and perfect love all wrapped up in forgiveness.

Peering into the Possibility

Most often when I sit to read the Scriptures I have no agenda but I am purposed to hear whatever I hear and often what I hear (not verbally, of course) is a question and often the answer is oh, could it be.

Like today.

Luke 1 (because I am behind already – should have read Luke 1 yesterday, but catching up is as good as an on-time start). So, Luke 1; visiting the account of John’s (Cousin to Yeshua) birth.
Do you know what verse 15 says?

15 for he will be great and distinguished in the sight of the Lord; and will never drink wine or liquor, and he will be filled with and empowered to act by the Holy Spirit while still in his mother’s womb. source

Does that mean no person who is drunk with wine or liquor (at least at the time of the intoxication) is filled with the Holy Spirit?

Wait!

Ephesians 5:18  (AMP) 18 Do not get drunk with wine, for that is wickedness (corruption, stupidity), but be filled with the [Holy] Spirit and constantly guided by Him. source

Drunk, intoxicated, plastered . . . etc is the definitive description.

Intoxication. Look closely at the word. INTOXICATION. What word do you see right there in the middle? Yep. TOXIC.

How about this definition? 1. The impaired condition caused by use of alcohol or a drug or other chemical substance     source

And this one? 4. (Medicine) poisoning    source

Do we dare peer into the possibility that consuming any substance to the point of TOXIC inhibits us from being filled with the Holy Spirit (at least at that intoxication)?

Reality proves that repeated intoxication is indeed toxic to the body and I’d say obviously even once is toxic to the soul of man (or woman).

Like it or not, I think the answer to our second question is yes.

I just came to hear.

He Prays

Luke 22:32  (NASB) 32 but I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail; and you, when once you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.” source

This verse is newly refreshed for me and I think I shall not soon forget. Recently, and most recently, my soul was bruised and bleeding, my spirit was low and receding. This could not stand. My kneeling was feeble. So, I prayed: Jesus, pray for me. He did. He never fails. My soul is healing well and my spirit is gratefully peaceful. He’s the best, no He’s the Only Savior.

Hebrews 7:25  (TLV) 25 Therefore He is also able to save completely those who draw near to God through Him, always living to make intercession for them. source

A Sweet Wednesday, my Friends.

Still . . . Sooner

This is big to me; big enough that I have been eager to get here to share.

40 But Martha was distracted with much serving; so she approached Yeshua and said, “Master, doesn’t it concern you that my sister has left me to serve alone? Then tell her to help me!” source

Martha was what does it say, distracted? Distracted from what? The MORE important. And while we are observing the more important let us not negate that kitchen detail is a good thing. Let’s face it, meal prep is high on the list of daily workings – obviously, it was too high this day.

But that’s not really what I am eager to share with you.

See Martha’s question? See that she is scolding JESUS? Do you ever do that? Do you ever use a tone with Him like that – even if not with words but perhaps countenance? I have. More times than you need to know.  :)

Still. That’s not the point I am hoping to make here. See that word following the question? It’s a consequence word. I mean the word THEN follows something else that’s already happened, right? Do you see anything recorded between the question mark (?) and the word then? Neither do I but I am imagining!

Because Martha said THEN I am thinking she saw something. She saw something in JESUS that told her He did care. Why else say THEN? I am thinking she saw great love and compassion in His eyes looking right at her. She knew He cared BUT at that moment perhaps she was still so distracted she still just wanted JESUS to do things HER way. She wanted her situation alleviated. She wanted help,  her way.

I really can’t fault Martha. It often takes me some time to re-focus and breathe in His love, compassion; His perfection in knowing what’s best for me. Sooner or later I relinquish the distraction of ME. Today I shall work on the SOONER. :)
