Guidelines for the New Year

It has been a pleasant, soul-feeding day; not to mention the body feeding as well.  Oven fried pork chops, black-eyed peas, cabbage, turnip greens, cornbread and for some sweet tea; for yours truly unsweetened and I have actually grown to prefer it — most of the time.  And with a quick ‘have a little talk with JESUS’ prayer I resisted the urge for Dunkin Donuts this evening.

Speaking of ‘have a little talk with JESUS’ praying, I am determined to do more of that this year as evidenced by this evening – It works!

My Little Girl has a great guideline for the New Year. She posted it to Facebook; I’m borrowing it.

2014 is going to be a great year! Live a life of joy every day!! — feeling hopeful.

And she is smart enough to know that every day is not going to lend its self to happiness; but she is also wise enough to know we can CHOOSE to retain the JOY of the LORD.

John 15:11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

We have covenanted to remind one another.  🙂

By the way, did you know the word JOY is referenced in KJV 187 times? Click HERE and take a look.

Some pots and pans are calling. Happy Day 2 of 2014!!

For Thought

Good Monday Morning!

JT and I hope you have had a remarkable Thanksgiving and are ready now to move into a Christ honoring celebrating His Birth Season. I saw something on Facebook moments ago that I liked.

Jesus cameNo other child coming from a womb was/is like JESUS but let us remember they all are precious.

What does it mean to you that JESUS, fully GOD, fully human, arrived here as a baby; don’t mean to offend but truth is He came through a birth canal as did you and I? What’s that tell you?

Kathie

14 The Word became a human being and lived with us, and we saw his Sh’khinah, the Sh’khinah of the Father’s only Son, full of grace and truth.

Jamie

Today is pet scan day for our Jamie. Loving thoughts and prayers appreciated.

The following is Jamie’s recent Facebook status. See why we love her so!

Well my friends, much to my dismay, I am not invincible after all. After many tests and long days at the hospital, the “stuff” I was thinking was pneumonia in my lungs ended up being cancerous. Many more tests to see exactly where the stupid stuff is coming from, but we will have answers soon. Good news is, it’s not lung cancer, it has just spread there. I will give updates as they come to me and just wanted to let everyone know so that I could have as many prayers going up as possible. I know this is a long hard battle to fight, but I’m ready. Let’s fight it and see what amazing things God can do through this! In all of the chaos of the past few days, I know one constant. And that is Jesus Christ. He is the same today, yesterday and forever. He is not surprised nor taken aback by this. Nor is my God far away, sitting in Heaven, wondering what to do next. He’s right here with me. I can feel Him. He’s real folks. I knew this all along. I’m praying fervently that I will do His will through this process and have a Christ like attitude that never fades. There’s a purpose and a plan in this that has existed since the beginning of time. I don’t understand it, but I don’t have to. Faith. Faith. Faith. God and His ways are so much bigger than me and cancer. Remember that. Love to you all.

28 “Come to me, all of you who are struggling and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

via Matt 11 NASB;CJB – John’s Questions – When Jesus had – Bible Gateway.

I would say our Jamie has done this very thing. Let us join her.

ABBA, thank You. In You we place our trust. And not only for Jamie but all of us. We trust Your love and Your plans and we thank You for our hope and our future in CHRIST ALONE.

Did

Just a late Monday afternoon hello.

A good day here at the Thompson house.  Looking forward to Hubby coming home.

Got my treadmill time in – JESUS and me talk time; did some blog reading; some blog posting at KAT’s MEOWS; some Facebook reading – saw some sad things there; some re-boarding at Pinterest; a little emailing; and now it’s time to pull some supper ideas together and load of laundry wouldn’t hurt.  🙂

Remember Bamako? It’s in Mali, West Africa. Christian Talk Radio as I type are talking about Mali. I am more and more convinced that praying for Bamako and all of Mali is a GOD thing.  I hope you are joining me in that praying. And I hope you are praying for the USA as well.

1 Peter 3:11-13 Complete Jewish Bible (CJB)

11 turn from evil and do good, seek peace and chase after it.

Blessings — gotta run!!

SLA

And another week has begun.

We are into our third week of Summer. A summer, I am hoping, to be packed with learning and sweet memories for my GRANDS to carry with them through their lives.

There is a skill to learning, don’t you know? A most valuable skill, wouldn’t you say? And my GRANDS are not the only ones needing to learn the skill of learning.  And I know just the Teacher!  And I believe the steps to learning have been revealed to us. THE TEACHER used them Himself. Here let me share with you what I have found.

Luke 2

Remember the account of JESUS at twelve? Joseph and Mary left Jerusalem thinking He was within the caravan with some of His cousins. And when it came time to make camp for the night, naturally they went looking for Him. And when they did not find Him they returned to Jerusalem. Can you imagine the horror of not finding Him for three days?? I mean think of it! You have been entrusted with GOD’s SON and you can’t find Him?!  Seriously, what Mother’s heart would not be in a gut-wrenching panic even for a moment of not knowing where is her child – much less THREE DAYS?!

Finally, they go to the Temple and there He is!

Learning!

46 Then, after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. via Luke 2 NASB – Jesus’ Birth in Bethlehem – Now in – Bible Gateway.

Three words, in particular, are my focus for this message.

Sitting. Listening. Asking

The steps to learning.

SIT.
To learn anything. Scripture. Math. Science. How to cut hair. You name it. Learning requires us to POSITION ourselves. To be still. Sit! Put ourselves in an environment conducive to the art of what we wish to learn.
JESUS was in the Temple. Smart move. We could learn a lot from this 12-year-old GOD-BOY!

LISTEN.
JESUS was not sitting there checking His Facebook, or playing a game on His iPad or iPod.  He was listening. He gave the teachers His attention! He heard their words. He considered what they said. He played the words, the concepts, the ideas in His mind examining them. He listened. We have to LISTEN if we expect to learn.  JESUS did. And if GOD did. Who are we not to?

Perhaps we don’t like the concept of JESUS learning; because learning denotes there is something we do not know and didn’t JESUS know everything?  As the GOD-INFANT, GOD-TODDLER, GOD-CHILD, GOD-BOY?  No, He didn’t. HE LEARNED. He allowed Himself to be limited because we humans are limited. He learned.  So can we, following His practice – Sit. Listen.

ASK.
If we sit. If we listen. We will surely have questions. Sometimes I have questions but I don’t ask. I don’t ask because I don’t want to appear ignorant. There’s a word for that kind of ignorance – PRIDE. I need to learn better.  🙂  And I will.  JESUS modeled the pattern for us. The least we could do is use it!

Sit. Listen. Ask.

Simple isn’t it? And there is no art of schooling to which we cannot apply it.

Sit. Listen. Ask.

I am glad to be learning this — aren’t you?

We have the God-given Right to do right in this wrong World,

Thank You, JESUS, for this simple and profound tool of learning; help us practice it well for Your glory and our good. Thank You, Father, for each soul who comes here to read and to pray. I am asking You to bless them for coming; whatever their needs I pray they will find You faithful today.  I pray for strength and courage, wisdom and discernment, peace and security, and for our sick and afflicted I pray You will heal them and for the wayward and rebellious I am thanking You that You will not give up on them and You are continuing to pursue them. I pray, HOLY SPIRIT, for You to help them repent.  And we remember Israel, praying for peace and safety, and for America, we pray for a great awakening unto repentance. Thank You, Father, for perfecting Your saints in JESUS’ name. Amen and amen.
