PMS?

Day 14 — Soul Detox

Mark 11:12-25

Devotional

Not only should we speak life-giving words to others, but we should also speak them to our circumstances and ourselves. The toxic words we speak to ourselves can be some of the most dangerous.

What types of toxic words are you saying to yourself? What steps do you need to take to stop saying these toxic words to yourself?

I hope you will read the whole of the text linked above. I am not going to pretend with you that I perfectly understand our LORD’s actions here but of this I am certain: JESUS was not having an off day, or a bad day, or even a ‘pms’ day and thus spoke out of turn. He was not vindictive to the fig tree. He was not in a ‘rage’ when He cleansed the temple. Righteous anger? Yes. But the temple cleansing was NOT in a fit of uncontrolled rage. Our SAVIOR – GOD MAN was ALWAYS obedient to the leading of THE HOLY SPIRIT.  His EVERY deed, EVERY word ALWAYS glorified the FATHER and would edify man, if man would listen.  We will NEVER be this controlled by the HOLY SPIRIT this side of HEAVEN; but we should be willing to try.  :)

So why did He curse the fig tree? I don’t know. But He had a purpose and I suspect the Disciples sooner or later got it! I hope I do too.

Happy Sunday, my Friends! Watch your Words to others and to yourself – our words contain life and death.

You Look Beautiful

Day 13 — Soul Detox

Matthew 12:22-37

Devotional

Anytime you think something positive about someone else, you should tell them. We should all live by that rule, as it will help us become more comfortable speaking life-giving words.

Describe a time when you were encouraged and uplifted by the power of positive, life-giving words.

I have a recent vivid recollection. I greeted my grandson at the door with a pony tail and no makeup; and in beloved Grandson fashion with a smile that melts this Mawmaw heart he said, “You look beautiful.”  And from that moment my countenance was lifted for the day.

There is power in words!

25 However, knowing what they were thinking, Yeshua said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not survive.

Household – family.

Husbands – wives – children who bite and devour one another with their words will not survive for they are divided against themselves.  Is that not what JESUS said?

Sticks and Stones

Day 8 of Soul Detox

Proverbs 12:11-23

Proverbs 18:21

Devotional

Words can hurt you and the right words can help heal you. Those words that crush and hurt you are known as toxic words. Toxic words are incredibly dangerous not only when they are spoken to you, but when you speak them to others. This week you will read from God’s Word about the dangers of toxic words and the power of life-giving words.

How are toxic words infecting your life right now?

via Soul Detox | YouVersion.com.

Do you remember that childhood saying: “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me.”

How many of us have personal experience with that lie?!

How many of us know in a moment we can slash others with emotional wounds that take a lifetime to heal?

How many of us think phrases (and even say them aloud) to ourselves if others said the same words to us we would be crushed?

How many of us know our words matter? Those we say to others and to ourselves?

How many of us are willing to allow the HOLY SPIRIT to teach us a better way of speaking and thinking?

8 Idle talk can pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise can heal.

Proverbs 18:21 The Message (MSG)

21 Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.

via Proverbs 12:11-23; Proverbs 18:21 CJB;MSG;KJV – He who farms his land will have plenty – Bible Gateway.

So what is the HOLY SPIRIT saying to you about your words? What is He saying to me? Are my words: Sticks, stones or healing balm? That’s a good question. And I know the answer. A mixture of all three.  My quest for today is to heavy that mixture on the healing balm side. You too?  :)
